What is the last day you can begin tracking for attestation in 2011?

A: October 3 2011 is the last day you can start tracking and still gather the required 90 days of data.  If you wait until October 3 to begin though…you are making a huge mistake.

How many exclusions do you qualify for?

A: Before you start tracking, you need to figure out exactly which Stage 1 Core & Menu Set item you are excluded from.  An exclusion counts as a completed item.  There are 15 Core Objectives and six of those have exclusions.  There are 10 Menu Set Objectives of which you must choose 5.  Seven of those 10 have exclusions.

Would you rather track for 90 days or 365 days?

A: If you do not attest this year, you will not only have to track for 365 days (all of next year) you will not be able to attest – which means ASK FOR YOUR CHECK until the end of those 365 days which means you have to wait at least another year to get your first EHR reimbursement check!

October 3 is the last day you can start tracking for the 90 day Attestation period in 2011!

A: The only way to know for sure is to ask your EHR vendor.

Bonus Question: How much could your Stage 1 Attestation efforts be worth in 2011? $9.000 or $18,000?

A: If you get attestation done this year (2011) or next year (2012)  it will be $18,000 per physician (up to 75% of estimated Medicare allowed charges) Medicaid participation varies.  Just remember, you can get that first $18,000 much easier if you attest this year (2011).

Final Bonus Question: Have you registered for the EHR Incentive Program Yet?

A: Do this ASAP.  As the CMS says: “We encourage providers to register for…EHR Incentive Program(s) as soon as possible to avoid payment delays.”  Also note, you do not need to currently have an EHR to register.
