University of Kentucky Data Breach

2,207 individuals, who participated in a newborn screening program, are being notified their personal information may have been stolen.
Details:
Laptop – password protected Windows user name, NOT encrypted.
Stored in a locked, private room (an office?)
Data – Includes: patient and mother’s names, medical record numbers, date of birth, diagnosis, plus social security number for some.

American Airlines Employee Data Stolen

On Friday (the second best day to report bad news), American Airlines announced that a hard drive had been stolen from it’s Fort Worth headquarters building.
On this hard drive was current and former employee:

Names
Addresses
Dates of birth
Social Security numbers
some bank information

Oh, and “No customer data was affected”…whew!  I’m sure the employees are grateful.

BCBS of GA Exposes 70,000

Georgia’s  largest health insurance company, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia, has warned 70,000 Georgians that their personal medical information, Social Security numbers and credit card data “may have been wrongly accessed because of a Web site security breach.”

Wellpoint Screws Up Again

WellPoint Inc., has warned some 470,000 people who applied for its health insurance that a website security glitch may have exposed their Social Security numbers and other sensitive data to the public….The glitch was introduced…by a contractor who upgraded the site….
